Weekly Update - Feb 11

Another short week at TRS. Enjoy your long weekends and hold your families near! 

Highlights of the Week: 

  • ELAL – students worked through Olympics related news articles this week. They were given a sport to research and write about. Students chose to write about specific events, athletes and overall experiences. We will continue these next week. 
  • Math – We took a break from division this week to work on some Olympic math involving graphing. Students picked up to 10 countries to follow throughout the Olympics and graph their medal counts. We will look at other elements of statistics when the games finish. 
  • Science –  
    • Grade 6 – students reviewed and wrote a test for Energy this week. We will begin a new unit next week. 
    • Grade 5 – we did a buoyancy experiment today where students tested how well clay would float in various types of water – regular, Epsom salt, table salt. They formed their clay into different shapes to see how well they would float.  
  • Social –  
    • Grade 5 – The students learned about different Pharaohs and learned about patriarchal and matriarchal systems.  
    • Grade 6 – Students finished their parliament design task.  

How you can support at home: 

  • Homework – enjoy your long weekends! 
  • Math – Work on division and multiplication fact families. 
  • ELAL – Continue reading out loud with your child and have them summarize what they have read.

  • WinSport Field Trip 
    • Please send forms back as soon as possible. If you are able to volunteer, please reach out.  
  • TRS Flex Time – Wednesdays until 4pm in the library with Mr. B and Ms. Hassen
