We took advantage of the weather during the short week at TRS and ended it with a community walk.
Highlights of the Week:
- ELAL – we continued working on comparative writing this week. Students chose various topics to compare and then write a short essay.
- Alberta Champions’ Writing Contest – students were introduced to the contest this week. Students will have opportunities to work on this project when they are done their regular classroom work and are encouraged to work on it outside of school. Submissions to the contest are not mandatory but do require parent consent if your child chooses to participate.
- Math – We introduced division by using manipulatives to break apart larger numbers into equal groups and reviewed remainders.
- Science –
- Grade 5 – students continued to look at forces of flight through traditional technologies, such as the bow and arrow and slingshot. They also made paper airplanes based on their understanding of the forces.
- Social –
- Grade 6 – Some students finished up their Democracy Now and Then Visual Journal page. We also played a game introducing us to different levels of government and what they are responsible for.
How you can support at home:
- Homework – No homework this week. Division work will be sent home next week.
- Math – Work on division facts.
- ELAL – Continue reading out loud with your child and have them summarize what they have read.

Learning Intention of the Week – STEM Science - Ozobots
This week, students were introduced to Ozobots, small programmable robots that help us learn about coding and problem-solving. They learned what Ozobots are and how different colour codes control the robot’s movements, such as turning, speeding up, and stopping. Students were then given a challenge to guide their Ozobot around a maze with intersections and reach a specific target. To succeed, they had to choose and apply the correct codes, testing and revising their plans as needed.
