Weekly Update - October 2

We had another lovely week at TRS. We hope families were able to enjoy the day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Highlights of the Week:

  • ELAL – Students did some work towards Orange Shirt Day and learned about Truth and Reconciliation. We also worked on our character sketch for Chase in our read aloud and discussed the different ways others see him versus how he sees himself. Students compared how he’s evolved throughout the book so far.
  • Math – We continued working on our Wanted Posters and work with place value.
  • Science – we took a break from matter this week and students spent some time learning about coding. They worked with Ozobots and the computer program called Scratch. They learned about loops, conditionals and sequences.

How you can support at home:

  • Homework – we will start homework in the coming weeks.
  • Math – work on place value including decimals up to the millions and thousandths.
  • ELAL – encourage your child to read at home for enjoyment.

Learning Intention of the Week – Computer Science / Ozobots

Students explored the foundations of computer science through hands-on experiences with Scratch and Ozobots. They learned how to use coding, sequencing, and problem-solving to create and control digital and physical projects. Students had opportunities to independently explore both platforms, experimenting with different features, testing ideas, and learning from trial and error. Through this process, students developed creativity, computational thinking, and confidence in using technology to solve problems and bring their ideas to life.
